Yes, it is boring and a bummer to be hospitalised for getting the coronavirus infection and being quarantined. Worse still, I’ve dragged three other family members (and potentially a taxi driver) down with me on the quarantine order. Thankfully, they have shown no symptoms throughout the 14 days (my family members, at least) and I can assume that I have not infected them. Knowing that they’d have to go through the horrible nose swabs, even if symptoms are mild, makes me uneasy.
Today, I started looking up the claims I could receive from my insurances as a result of being hospitalised due to COVID-19. As it turns out, many insurance companies out there are providing relief for policy holders and their family members affected!
So far, I think Prudential has the best offer:
- $200 per day for the hospitalisation (in a local hospital) of each policy holder and immediate family members, up to 3 months
- $500 one-time payout for each policy holder or family members who has received an official quarantine order from Ministry of Health (MOH)
Great Eastern offers:
- $200 per day for the hospitalisation (in a local hospital) of each policy holder and immediate family members, up to 60 days
- $20,000 death benefit for each policy holder and immediate family member
NTUC has terms and conditions for different policies here.
I am sure many other insurance policies have some benefits for policy holders affected by COVID-19 so I would encourage everyone to look up their entitlements!
